At our Centre we conduct NI Accredited or Approved Courses. The Accredited ones are DP Induction, Simulator, Revalidation, and DP Vessel Maintainer’s Courses. By 15 December ‘2023, DPN will introduce the DP Refresher Course with Continuous Professional Development Modules. Our Instructors are Master Mariners or Engineers with vast DP experience and our Training methjodology and material is among the best in the industry.
It is a 5-Day Course at the Centre, comprising Theory and Practical exercises on a Simulator. We can deliver a Blended Learning Induction Course, wherein, you may attend 3 Days Online followed by 2 Days at our Centre. After that you will undertake an Online Test conducted by The Nautical Institute. Upon passing, you will receive a DP Logbook.
This Course covers both theory and practice on a simulated DP system, and covers the following topics:
5 days, concluding with an Online Test. With effect from January 2015, in order to attend the DP Induction Course, candidates must belong to one of the following three categories:
1. Be in possession of an STCW Deck, Engine or ETO Certificate of Competency issued by a Maritime Administration: The Minimum qualification will be set at STCW Regulation II/1 - II/2 - II/3 Deck, Regulation III/1 – III /2 – III/3 Engine or III/6 ETO
2. Have an approved Marine Vocational Qualification (MVQ) endorsed by a Maritime Administration; these are considered by the NI on a case by case basis. The Nautical Institute defines an MVQ as a non-STCW Certificate of Competency issued by a (IMO) White List Maritime Administration for use in the Administration’s local waters only.
3. Prospective DPOs (Deck or Engine Cadets) who are in the process of training for a Deck or Engine STCW Certificate of Competency can undertake the DPO Induction/Basic Course and 30 days DP Sea time Familiarisation only.
This Course principally involves simulated DP operations including errors, faults and failures, giving the participants the opportunity to apply the lessons learned in both the Induction course and the time spent during seagoing DP familiarisation. There will be an Online Test on completion.

The DP Advanced (Simulator) Course runs for 5 days, usually from Monday to Friday from 0930 hrs to 1700 hrs.
A Simulator-based Training Course. Dynamic Positioning (DP) operations are complex and hazardous and require correct and consistent training to minimise the potential for complacency and to enhance personal skills. The DP Revalidation Course is meant for DPOs who have not logged 150 days of DP sea time in the last 5 years. The NI will revalidate a license for a further 5 years from the anniversary date.
The Course updates the participant’s knowledge of the latest developments and incidents in the industry, DP operations, and DP emergencies, taking into IMCA and MTS guidelines. On arrival, you will be provided with a Course Manual. Course Syllabus – based on NI Standard:
For |DP Simulator and Revalidation Course, delegates must pass the Practical Phase on Simulators, based on an Assessment Sheet maintained by the Instructor for each participant.
We conduct an NI Accredited DP Vessel Maintainer’s Course for Technical Staff. We can customise the Course to provide an understanding on a variety of DP Systems – Converteam, GE, MT, Rolls Royce, or Kongsberg. Our Electrical Engineers have a wealth of experience on several types of DP Systems. A Master DPO may deliver Operator Elements of this Course. Our Instructors are also Associate Lecturers at the Korea Maritime Ocean University.
